A Shimmer parallel is a refractive card whose finish carries a dense micro-sparkle texture. Instead of one large pattern, the surface is broken into a very fine grain, so the card glitters rather than sweeps.

How to spot it

Grain size is the tell. Shimmer is fine enough that you have to look closely to resolve individual points; disco circles and cracked ice fractures are visible across a room.
It sparkles when you move it a little. Small movements produce a lot of change, which is what "shimmer" is describing.
Compare against a plain prizm. This is the pattern parallel most often mistaken for the base finish, so the side-by-side is worth the ten seconds.

Shimmer finishes appear across Panini lines, plain and colour-tinted, and shimmer-style textures show up in other manufacturers' products under their own names. As with every pattern, the finish tells you which family the card belongs to; the colour and the serial number tell you which rung.
