The Superfractor is the card at the top of a Topps chrome ladder. It is a refractor with a heavy swirled gold pattern — closer to marbled foil than to the smooth sweep of a plain refractor — and Topps has kept it as a [one-of-one](/guides/glossary/one-of-one) wherever it appears. There is one copy of a given card, and its serial number says so on the card itself.
That combination is why it is the chase. Rarity in modern cards comes from stacking mechanisms, and the Superfractor stacks the maximum: refractive coating, an exclusive pattern, a colour that sits at the top of the convention, and a print run that cannot be beaten. When a chrome product is opened by the case, the Superfractor of the set's best rookie is usually the reason.
How to recognise one
- Read the set line. The word Superfractor is printed in the parallel name on any listing, and the card back or front carries the serial stamp. This is not a card you identify by vibe.
- Check the pattern. Broad gold swirls across the whole surface, not a tint over a normal refractor field and not the regular grid of an X-Fractor.
- Find the serial. A Superfractor is numbered. If a card looks the part but carries no number at all, you are probably holding a gold refractor from a lower rung, which is a genuinely different card.
