Chase Card

The card a product is bought for — the top of the ladder, or the insert everyone actually wants.

The chase card is whatever a product is actually bought for. Sometimes it is the top of the parallel ladder; often it is a particular insert series that captured the market, or the rookie card of one specific player in a set that contains hundreds of others.

The chase is a market fact, not a manufacturer designation. Nothing on the card says "chase". It becomes one when enough people decide it is the reason to open the product — and it can change during a season as a player breaks out.
